Having chosen a classic Shaker in-frame kitchen (see Pure and Simple in the Quintessential gallery) the owners wanted to fit the adjoining utility in the same simple style but using plant-on doors. The utility has a cloakroom at the end so the layout needed to be carefully considered to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The wall mounted boilder was housed in a wall cabinet with the ugly pipework below hidden behind clever boxing in. By choosing a small Belfast sink there was still room for a washing machine, dishwasher and tumble drier and general storage. The worktop was solid oiled iroko which is very resistant to water and mellows beautifully to a deep chocolate colour over time. A wall unit with carefully devised shelving keeps all the TV control system box and wiring neatly hidden out of sight..
