Knocking through several rooms to create an open plan space can leave awkward areas that have no real purpose, not so in this room where the old chimney breast alcoves were converted into feature wine and drinks storage cupboards with contemporary black framed glazed doors, picking up the Farrow and Ball Off Black island colour. The supporting steel was in a very difficult position in the room so it was painted in the same colour and anchored on the end of the island to minimise it’s impact in the space.
A full height larder cupboard and tall French door style fridge freezer were painted in neutral Designers Guild Portobello Grey, sitting either side of the anthracite range cooker with display shelving above. A freestanding breakfast cupboard with bi-fold doors gives lots of useful storage, connected to the kitchen in colour and style but the oak toned interior working perfectly with the wooden furniture in the dining area.
The sink on the island is fitted with a Perrin and Rowe Phoenix nickel hot water tap, proving instant boiling water for cups of tea and coffee, a well deserved favourite feature in the kitchen for the owners teenage son.
