GUIDE PRICE: Kitchen only £40k+

As a professional cook, it was obviously important for our client to have plenty of room in her kitchen for cooking, but as a TV cook it was vital that there was enough space for the film crew to video live cooking demonstrations. Her pride and joy was the original pantry in the kitchen, but this took up so much room that it limited her option to have an island as well. The Aga was already in situ and could not be moved, which made the new layout options even trickier.
It took some persuading to envisage the benefits, but with the promise of even better storage in the new layout, the pantry was removed, along with the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room. The new space was so much bigger and brighter, benefitting from windows on both side of the room and the dining room felt so much more connected to the cooking area.
With a large larder cupboard to replace the pantry, and American fridge fitted on the same run, all the food could now be stored in one place. The old pantry window was retained to offer natural light over the newly created central baking area.
The huge island offered massive amounts of storage and food prep areas with a generously large Belfast sink taking centre stage, with casual seating at one end it is the perfect place for relaxed meals.
The treasured Aga cooker remains as the focal point of the room, with plenty of worktop space to one side for dishing up the delectable meals our client creates. At the far end of the room a large broom cabinet is used to hide lots of everyday kitchen paraphernalia, the ironing board, Hoover etc. balanced by a more glazed display cabinet at the other end of the run, painted inside in the same Farrow and Ball Railings to match the island. Open bookshelves between are filled with inspirational cookery books, many written by the owner herself. With a lovely window seat in the bay window it is now the perfect place to cook, relax and entertain
